Clones and Crucifixes
What We Want:
UPDATE: Acceptance and rejection letters have been sent. If you have not received a letter, feel free to query. We will respond as quickly as possible.
For Clones and Crucifixes, we want tales of futuristic horror. Only, there’s a catch. Each story must involve a demonic possession. Think The Exorcist mixed with Blade Runner. We’re not interested in run-of-the-mill exorcism tales, either. We want something new. Something fresh. Something that will make our eyes widen and our sphincters clench. Well, maybe not the latter, but you get the idea.
(See DL Snell’s Market Scoops for even more information)
Length:
We’re looking for stories between 1000 and 3,500 words.
Payment:
For Clones and Crucifixes, we’re paying 1 cent a word. Titles and bylines are not factored into the final word count.
Specifics:
This anthology will be part of Corpulent Insanity Press’ Chapterbook line, meaning it will contain 8,000-10,000 words total, and will not receive an ISBN. It will be printed as a 6×9 softcover book, and the print run will be determined by the number of pre-orders we receive. The minimum number of books we will print is 13.
Submission Format:
In general, we’re not too picky. As long as you follow the guidelines below, you’ll be okay.
- Single spaced.
- 12 pt Times New Roman or Courier font.
- Italicized words italicized (do not underline).
- Scene breaks marked by three centered asterisks (* * *).
- Author’s name, title, and page number at the top of each page.

Also, please include the word “Submission,” the author’s name, the story’s title, and the word count in the subject line of the email (Submission: Name, Title, word count). If you don’t, your submission may not be read. A bio in the body of the email is nice, but not mandatory. If your story is accepted, we will request an up-to-date bio, to be printed in the anthology.
Other Information:
We will not consider reprints or multiple submissions. simultaneous submissions are okay, but if your story is accepted elsewhere, please let us know. We won’t bite your head off.

I’m wondering if who’s possessed in the story matters. I have a story currently under construction that involves a possessed antagonist, would this be something that you might be interested in?

Nathaniel,
It doesn’t matter who’s possessed, as long as there’s possession involved. Your story could feature a possessed squirrel, for example, and we’d consider it. Not that we suggest such a thing, but ….

What are your thoughts on Post-Apocalyptic? Could that be the futuristic angle?
December 1, 2010 at 12:30 am
Pat,
Yes, we’d consider post-apocalyptic tales. We don’t want this to be a purely post-apocalypse anthology, but if it’s well done and original ….

If I sent a story December 7, and haven’t heard back, should I count it as a rejection or keep my fingers crossed until 60 days from the December 20 deadline?
February 10, 2011 at 11:08 pm
Our goal is to respond to submissions in under 60 days … but we’re a tiny bit behind at this point. If you haven’t received a response, don’t fear. You’re still in the running. All stories will receive a shortlist request or rejection.
