Chapterbook Guidelines
Corpulent Insanity Press is now CLOSED to chapterbook submissions. We are busy reading the manuscripts submitted to us during the open period, so please do not send any manuscripts to us at this time. New submissions will be deleted, unread.
What We Want
Anything bizarre, weird, or otherwise disturbing. For example, if there are zombies in your story, make sure they’re in an alternate universe populated entirely by giant flamingos. Or if there are humans, make them diseased, decrepit creatures with filthy hobbies and even filthier companions. The more macabre and outlandish, the better.
Tales must involve a monster (or monsters) of some kind. They can be traditional, original, or downright cringe-inducing. Keep in mind, though, that traditional monsters are a harder sell.
Length
Manuscripts should be between 10,000 and 15,000 words.
Payment
We are offering a flat rate of $80.00 (US).
Submission Process
Step 1: Send a query letter with your contact info, a short bio, the story title, approximate word count, and a brief outline of your manuscript.
Step 2: Assuming your query wasn’t outright rejected, you may send the first 2,000 words of your manuscript. This will serve as a preview of your story. If it starts out too slow, it will most likely be rejected.
Step 3: Congratulations! Your story has made it past the first two rounds. Now you may send the entire manuscript. The formatting details are as follows: single spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font, with contact details on the first page. Add your last name, story title, and page number to the top of each page.
Other Details
The chosen manuscript will start off CIP’s chapterbook line. It will be released as a lettered, signed limited edition paperback, and will be available only through the Corpulent Insanity Press website. Since it will be released as a lettered (26 copies) edition, it will not receive an ISBN. We will ask for exclusive one-year print rights upon publication.
